Remembering Paul Charlton

Updated: Mar 2

From President Brian Jardine

Sadly former player Paul Charlton passed away last night alongside his family after having a brief fight with cancer.

Paul, who was a hooker, started playing for our 1st xv when he was 17 and was a regular in the team until he moved to Aberdeen with wife Rachel in the early 80’s.

Those who know Paul will know that he has had major health problems over the past few years but he has always come through them, mainly due to his strength and character. However he was given the shock news a few weeks ago that his cancer had returned. However Paul continued to fight and is testament to his desire and willpower that he managed to get to Murrayfield on Saturday to watch Scotland’s victory. Hats off to Rachael, daughter Laura and the SRU for making this possible. What a man he was.

Paul became a grandfather for the first time a fortnight ago when daughter Mhari had her first child, son Robbie. Paul was such a proud grandfather.

Paul will be sadly missed by all at Musselburgh’s and our thoughts are with Rachel, daughters Mhairi and Laura and son, Paul Jnr, and new grandson Robbie at this sad time.

Paul's funeral will be held at Hazelhead Crematorium, Aberdeen at 11:15am on the 6th March. Funeral tea will be at ASRC Squash Club after the service.
