Remembering Jim Galbraith

We were deeply saddened to learn of the death of one of our Patrons, Jim Galbraith who passed away on 5th April 2021.

Jim was an Actuary and most recently was the Chief Executive Officer of Scottish Friendly with whom he had been working for over 30 years. Jim was a good supporter of the club even though he was not able to visit Stoneyhill that often.

Jim played for the club in the mid 1980s and was a member of the squad that won promotion to Division One in the 1986-87 season. Jim was affectionately known as the turbo prop due to his short stature and electric pace off the mark.

Jim was an enthusiastic team player and trainer. He will always be remembered by those who played with him for losing his way on one of the “Whitecraig runs” that the coaches used to impose upon the squad if the ground was frozen. Jim had fallen slightly behind the rest of the runners and on reaching the end of the Grove, unsure of the route to be followed, he turned right instead of left and ended up in Wallyford. After asking some locals for directions he eventually arrived back at Stoneyhill just as everyone was finishing showering. You can imagine the welcome that he received.

Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
